My personal journal with breast cancer #NotHer2

Welcome to Not Her2, my personal journal of my experiences since being diagnosed with breast cancer. I want to use this platform as an opportunity to help educate and inspire my readers. Hopefully we can fight to end breast cancer and we can stop saying,  "Not her too!"

Optically Stimulated Luminescence Dosimetry

During my radiation therapy treatments, my radiation dosage was measured. On treatment 15/25, my radiation oncologist made “X” marks at various spots in the area where I was reviving radiation. Then a medical dosimetrist placed the dosimeters on those marks.

Here’s a link on info what a medical dosimetrist does and their importance as a member of my radiation oncology team - https://www.medicaldosimetry.org/about/medical-dosimetrist/

This exercise was done to make sure the radiation dosage I am receiving is effective yet safe. The measurement of absorbed dose at the skin depth of 0.4 mm by the OSLD can be a useful tool to assess radiation effects on the skin dermis layer. This knowledge can be used to prevent and manage potential acute skin reaction and late skin toxicity from radiotherapy treatments.

I included a sample photo of a dosimeter for reference on the size and what they look like.

A few days later I received the good news that no adjustment had to be done with the remaining treatments.
