My personal journal with breast cancer #NotHer2

Welcome to Not Her2, my personal journal of my experiences since being diagnosed with breast cancer. I want to use this platform as an opportunity to help educate and inspire my readers. Hopefully we can fight to end breast cancer and we can stop saying,  "Not her too!"

Insurance caused a slight schedule change

Last week’s AC treatment #4 was postponed due to some insurance issues. Soooo when I received the positive cancer diagnosis, I started a new job 3 weeks before and had to be on COBRA until I was eligible. I stayed on COBRA for a few months. When I became available for benefits, was on it for a month until open enrollment when it was time to choose a new carrier.

The change happened right at the end of March through the beginning of April. When I was able to log in to the new carrier and confirm my PCP and right medical group it was right before my 4/4 treatment. The carrier had chosen a PCP for me with a different medical group (Scripps). If you did not already know, I have been going to Sharp in Kearny Mesa for all my medical needs. So I had to make the phone calls on 4/3 the day I was to see Dr. Shenoy to make sure I was placed with the right PCP and medical group.

It all got worked out by the end of that week. I saw Dr. Shenoy on Friday to confirm that my treatment can get started again on the following Thursday (4/11) which pushed the last AC treatment one week and the next round of the new chemo THP treatments to start on 4/25. All the insurance authorizations had to get done with the new carrier.

Silver linings to all of this are:

- new carrier approved everything

- copays are less than the last insurance

- new carrier will credit me for out of pocket costs from prior carrriers

- MRI appointment will hopefully work out better (that’s another blog I have to update everyone with)

- I’m done with the last AC treatment

- Be your best medical and insurance advocate!

Glad that worked out.. we had similar insurance blunders too when Win changed to gov’t and it all happened right before my surgery in 2017. I literally was only covered up until the day I had the surgery then there was this grace period where we had no coverage until the new one kicked in... sounds like you have a good carrier now 👍🏼

You go girl! Miss you! Spin has been slow but I got some new guys.0-3 on verage. Kevin never showed up again, sad but he might miss you too much. A guy Brent showed up and said he took your classes before and I assumed he was there for class but he just plugged in his headphones and did his own thing?! Odd but made attendance look better, lol. Anyway, cant wait to ride with you again. I am used to the sunrise now.....HUGS!!!!

That happened to us when I moved to my new job! Remember to do the same for your dentist too!
